The Butler Junior High Wrestling team competed this weekend at the 18th annual NA Junior High Wrestling Invitational. Going into the finals and consolation finals the "GT" were in 3rd place out of 22 teams. However when the final team scores were announced Butler was in 7th place. Butler had 3 place winners. Caleb Baxter placed 2nd at 92lbs. He used 2 falls and a major decision to get to the finals were he faced the wrestler from Latrobe who had handed Baxter his only loss of the year. Caleb set the tone early and used a first period takedown to go up 2-0 at the end of the first period. The second and third period were owned by the Latrobe wrestler who used multiple near falls to record a major decision win.
Hank Finan placed 4th at 140lbs. Maybe the biggest upset of the day for the "GT" was when Finan pinned the 2nd seeded wrestler from General McClain in the first period. Finan lost a close decision to place 4th.
Luke Baranchak moved up 2 weight classes from 147 to 167 for this weekend and was rewarded with a 4th place finish. To make it to the consolation final Baranchak won a thrilling 6-4 overtime decision.

The Tornado will travel to Franklin Regional this Wednesday for their final dual match of the year. Franklin Regional and Butler have split the past 2 years. Butler beat Franklin Regional 2 years ago 52-33 after being down 30-0, and last year Franklin Regional handed the "GT" their only loss by a 45-45 score based on criteria. Franklin Regional also was the only team last year to place ahead of the Tornado at a tournament. (Franklin Regional won GLOW while Butler took 2nd). Both teams have sent a lot of talented guys to varsity from last year but still have good wrestlers on both teams. It should be a close and exciting match.
